Since doing research on librarian blogs I have become an avid reader of several. Because I work in a preservation
department at a library I like to check out a blog called "Library Preservation" (found at http://librarypreservation.blogspot.com/)
to see what is new in the field. It is important to see what preservation librarians are doing out in the field.
Although I
am familiar with instant messaging and social networks I don't use them personally. I do however use iTunes, Flickr, YouTube
and wikis regularly. I especially like to look at wikis of conferences that I have not been able to attend but want to see
what happened. We spoke about using these Web tools in our course on "College and University Libraries" with Dr. Kusack. Because
these tools are used so profusely by young people it is important for a librarian to utilize them as a communication tool
with young library patrons.
Using librarian blogs keeps me informed about what is happening in the world of libraries and the
web. Two that I find useful are the "Librarian.net" blog (found at http://www.librarian.net/stax/date/2009/05/) and Tame the
Web (found at http://tametheweb.com/). Today technical advances are so fast that a librarian
must be aware of the new technical tools at her disposal in order to be an effective information provider.
