ILS504 Reference and Information Resources and Services with Dr. Elsie Okobi

"Providing guidance to individuals for use of information resources" was a skill acquired in the Reference class with Dr. Okobi. The assignments for this course really prepared us for helping patrons search for information. It was the most labor intense course but it really provided an excellent foundation as regards what reference resources are available and how to approach a reference question to best effect.

ILS680 Evaluation And Research with Dr. Eino Sierpe

"Appreciates the importance of continuing education and lifelong learning as principles of good service, and as personal guidelines for continuous professional development."

I feel continuing education is important for any profession so for the "Evaluation and Research" course I used that subject for one of the two required projects. I selected continuing education for library professionals for my study to analyze the library school websites to gauge how many of the schools provided courses online and on ground for working professionals to acquire new skills especially in emerging technologies..

Graduate Assistantship with Dr, Yan Quan Liu

"Understands the principles related to the teaching and learning of information seeking, evaluating and using concepts, processes and skills."

I was fortunate to receive a graduate assistantship for the "Introduction to Library Science and Technology" course, where I had the opportunity to teach one class, a review before the final exam. I created a study sheet and incorporated some of what I had learned during my time as a student to help the students in the class. I was able to help correct the final exam which provided me with an assessment as to whether my review with the students had been successful.

"Understands the principles related to the teaching and learning of information seeking"

I was lucky to have an opportunity to both learn information seeking by taking the "Introduction to Library Science and Technology" and then by helping prepare a review for the class several years later. You look at a subject or skill in a different light when you are learning it than when you are trying to convey the same information to someone else.
